ORIGIN STORY
Viva Adventures is a boutique and proudly female-owned & operated Costa Rica Destination Management Company (DMC) and Global Tour Operator that was established in 2012.
Tara Tiedemann launched Viva Adventures after two years with the United States Peace Corps in Guatemala, volunteering in Sustainable Community Tourism. During her service, family and friends traveled to visit her, and they all were amazed at the richness of the experience they felt when they traveled to new places outside the realm of a Google search. Tara took them to places only discovered after living and working in the region.
The idea for a business was born after so much positive feedback from family and friends alike. Tara made business cards and started traveling around Central America on a shoestring budget via the local buses with just a small backpack and surfboard. Her goal was to see as many places as possible and check out a variety of hotels and activities first hand so that she could design packages which future clients could enjoy, but in a more comfortable manner.
Over a decade later and after a ton of adventures with amazing folks from around the world, the company is both thriving and growing both in terms of size and impact.
Who We are now
In 2023, the company had grown to the point where Tara was able to bring on her adventure partner-in-crime and surf buddy, Adrianne Chandra Huff. Also an expert in responsible, wellness-oriented tourism, Tara and Adrianne have been doubling down on the themes of health, longevity, outdoor adventure, and connection in their trips ever since.
When not leading trips in exotic destinations, the two women are living their beliefs every single day. All of the building blocks of the trips they build for others are embodied in their lives: staying very active through sports and working out; eating healthy and delicious food every day; prioritizing slowing down and getting into nature as much as possible; connecting with friends and loved ones in a variety of different means.

As the company continues to grow, Tara and Adrianne continuously look for ways to keep growing and developing their knowledge and skill base, be it through certifications, courses, or new challenges. Devout believers in healthy lifestyle habits, they will find new and interesting ways to incorporate their learnings and findings into future trips.
We love all the folks we currently work with (and the fact that our “clients” / friends come back to us year after year), be they university professors, yoga teachers, or business leaders. We are also looking to expand our circle and connect with more group travel leaders, retreat spaces, small businesses, nonprofit initiatives, and more!
We know that travel is such an impactful way to be connected to one another, the different cultures and ways of life, and this beautiful planet we get to call home.
